First of all my thanks for the invitation to judge your show. I thoroughly enjoyed judging ALL your dogs, even the one who just wanted her tummy tickled! Great fun. My remarks here are meant as guidance not criticism. More ringcraft training for some owners/handlers and dogs would greatly enhance their chances of a higher placing. The use of a suitable nylon or leather slip lead, blending with the coat colour of the dog, which is thrown back over the dog’s shoulders also gives them a better neck and shoulder line. Too many handlers were stuffing bait into the dogs’ mouths when I was trying to look at the bite. If any dogs are shy of having their teeth examined, I, and I am sure most other judges, are quite happy to let the handler show the teeth if asked to do so. You only have a couple of minutes to present your dog to the judge and even less in the final look round, so do watch the judge and have your dogs ready and standing at the right time. Once again I thank you all for giving me the privilege of going over your lovely Labradors, I thoroughly enjoyed my day with you all. Thank you also to my jovial and efficient steward, Roy Clark, he kept us all on our toes and the ring in good order. Don’t forget, an old cliché I know, but you all take the best dog home and every show is only one judge’s opinion on that particular day. Happy showing!!

Minor Puppy Dog.

1. van Vuuren’s Adamasdor’s Great Gatsby. Well made 9 month yellow puppy. Deep in body, good ribs, short coupled, level topline, strong bone and neat feet. He moved well and happily, in good coat with tail straight off back. His head needs to develop and grow into his ears, when it does I am sure he will trouble the best. Best Puppy in Show.
2. Reid’s Chezenko Over And Out. 7 month black puppy of good make and shape. Pleasant head with good length of muzzle and correct eye colour. Coat slightly more open and not moving as positively as 1st today.

Puppy Dog.

1. Botha’s Ailsacraig Indiana Jones of Ablesing. Compact, balanced 10 month old yellow. Correct front and rear angulation, balanced head with good pigment and eye colour. Level topline with good tail and set. Just right for age.
2. Tubbs’ Tushielaw Tomahawk. Balanced black with good overall conformation. Masculine head with soft expression, correct double coat and moved well.
3. Kislig’s Eyebright Vulcan. Slightly rangier black, but with good head and soft expression. Correct harsh top coat, tail not quite so well set and would benefit from more ring training.

Junior Dog.

1. Van Heerden’s Dirnelia Smokey Sultan. Nice young chocolate with excellent front and quarters. Masculine head, eye colour O K, good length of muzzle. In good harsh coat with level topline and good tailset, although he tended to carry it a little high on the move.

Graduate Dog.

1. Moore’s Hollies Jet Setter of Tsavo. Black dog with good overall balance. A slightly better upper arm angulation would have improved his front, but his quarters were well muscled and he had a good masculine head with soft expression and correct eye colour. Moved soundly.
2. .Louw’s Sonlo Little Boy Blue. Yellow dog of sound construction, good head with correct eye colour. Good depth of body and ribs. Not moving as well as 1st today.

Maiden Dog.

1. Smith’s Lambrada Crossfire. Good type medium sized black of good construction. Lovely head and expression. Good body and coat, neat feet. Moved OK.
2. Hoar’s Eyebright Scapa NHR. Yellow dog of good type but difficult to assess. Masculine head and good body. Moved OK when settled. More ring training would improve his chances, I understand it was his 1st show.

Member’s Dogs.

1. Moore’s Ch. Ailsacraig Christmas Star of Tsavo. Lovely type yellow dog, nothing flashy here, just good, honest Labrador. Correct front and rear, deep body but good leg length to balance, masculine head with soft expression and correct eye colour. In good double coat, level topline and tail straight off his back. He moved steadily and although alone, deserved his first and I was pleased to award him the Dog CC. Well deserved Champion.

South African Bred Dogs.

1. Brown’s Ch Dirnelia Conker. Well constructed chocolate dog with good front and quarters, deep body, good ribcage and level topline. Masculine head, OK eye colour, strong bone. Moved soundly.
2. Potts’ Craignair Stolen Nugget. Nice type black dog of good construction . Masculine head with soft expression, correct eye colour and decent length of muzzle. In good coat with level topline, good bone and neat feet. Not as settled on the move as 1st.

Veteran Dogs.

1. Louw’s Ch Sonlo Romeo. Good type yellow dog of good construction, compact and balanced. Masculine head with soft expression, neat feet and carrying a good double coat. Moved soundly.
2. Reid’s Ch Chezenko Double Or Nothing WHR FQ. Well constructed black dog, also carrying a good double coat. Deep body, short coupled, masculine head, correct eye colour and moving well.

Open Dog.

1. van Vuuren’s Adamasdor Maestro Maxim. Strongly built dog of lovely type. Correct front and rear construction, deep in body, level topline and good tail and set. Beautiful head with masculine but soft expression. Excellent coat in lovely condition. He needs to gain confidence in the ring, however, I was able to go over him and he moved well when settled. In the challenge he really stood himself up and I was pleased to feel able to award him the Reserve Dog CC.

Champion Dogs.

1. van Vuuren’s Ch Adamasdor’s Rolls Royce. What can I say about this dog that probably hasn’t been said before? Today was his day, he looked a picture. Striking yellow dog with everything fitting together, excellent front and quarters, deep body, short coupled, level topline and tail straight off his back. Masculine head with soft expression, decent length of muzzle and correct eye colour. He was carrying a good double coat and moved with drive. He stood and showed his socks off and just asked to be made Best in Show – which he was! Well done!
2. Brown’s Ch Dirnelia Conker. First in SA Bred Dogs.
3. Reid’s Ch Chezenko Wingshooter. Compact black dog of good construction. Masculine head with correct eye colour and length of muzzle. Excellent coat and tail.
4. Hansen’s Ch Sleepyhollow Lone Star of Tushielaw. Well made yellow with balanced outline, good head and expression, carrying a correct double coat. Carries his tail a little high for me on the move.
5. Potts’ Ch Craignair Jump Master. Well constructed yellow with masculine head and soft expression. Excellent coat and tail but looking just a little heavy over the shoulders today. Moved well.

Minor Puppy Bitch.

1. Botha’s De Brack Pollydora of Ablesing. Sweet yellow puppy just right for age. Prettiest of heads with correct eye colour and good pigment. Well made all through with correct coat and good tail and set. Moved and showed sensibly.

Puppy Bitch.

1. Lodge-Lowe’s Valhallen Dream Catcher. Well made young chocolate bitch who needs to mature, as she will, to look her best. Good coat colour, feminine head with soft expression, and hopefully her eyes will darken with age, as they normally do. Moved soundly.
2. Van Rensburg’s Marsabet Tia Maria. Heavier built bitch who doesn’t need to carry any more weight! However, she is well made with strong bone and good coat and tail. Good eye colour. Moved Soundly.
3. Lovely pale cream puppy of excellent make and shape. Pretty head with correct eye colour and good pigment. Level topline, good coat, tail and set. Sadly she went very lame in this class hence her 3rd place. Pleased to see her sound later in the day as she is very promising.

Junior Bitch.

1. Van Heerden’s Dennegeur Yohanna Yolyt. Well made black bitch with excellent harsh top coat and good tail. Pretty, feminine head with correct eye colour and good length of muzzle. Correct bone and neat feet, good balance of body depth to length of leg. She moved soundly and I thought her just right for her age, just over a year, with more to come. I was pleased to award her the Reserve Bitch CC.
2. Lodge-Lowe’s Valhallen Die Engel BY MY At Ablesing. Pretty chocolate bitch with good angulation fore and aft. Level topline, excellent coat and tail and moved soundly.
3. van Vuuren’s Adamasdor Mooi Martina. Pretty yellow bitch of good construction. Level topline, short coupled and carrying a good double coat. Moved soundly.
4. Fourie’s KnibbelkouerJuffrou Nina. Well constructed black youngster with feminine head. Good bone, neat feet and carrying an excellent double coat. Moved well.
5. Fourie’s Knibbelkouer Juffrou Roxy. Similar remarks apply, but not quite as good in upper arm or tail as her litter sister. However, she had a good head and eye colour, good quarters and bone and neat feet. Moved well.

Graduate Bitch.

1. Botha’s Ablesing Promising Kelty. Compact, balanced yellow of good construction. Feminine head with correct eye colour. Level topline, good coat and tail and moved soundly.
2. Potts’ Craignair Heartbreaker. Lovely type black with good angulation fore and aft. Feminine head with correct eye colour and excellent double coat. Just felt she was a little
   heavier over shoulders today than 1st. Moved soundly.
3. Holman’s Trevena Silver Fern. Another well made black of good type. Feminine head with correct eye colour and length of muzzle, good body, strong bone and neat feet. She was sadly out of coat today which had to count in this good class. Moved well.

Maiden Bitch.

1. Fourie’s Knibbelkouer Juffrou Roxy. VHC in Junior.
2. Van Rensburg’s Marsabet Kola Ice. Rather heavy chocolate who was difficult to assess as she just wanted her tummy tickled! However, angulation was ok, she had a correct coat and tail and moved well when settled. Definitely one needing more ring training with her handler.

Members Bitches.

1. Lodge-Lowe’s Ch Valhallen Who’s That Girl. Well made chocolate bitch who was a little heavy for me on the day. She had a feminine head with good eye colour and was crrying a good double coat. Moved soundly.
2. Van Rensburg’s Marsabet Opal. Well constructed chocolate who was difficult to assess. Good coat colour and eye colour and good length of muzzle. Correct double coat and moved well.

South African Bred Bitches.

1. Bales’ Rodare Golden Charm of Lekkerwin. Balanced yellow of good construction. Feminine head with correct eye colour. Good double coat, good tail and set, well muscled quarters and moved soundly.
2. Farrell’s Valhallen dawn Rising of Castleburgh. Fit black bitch with lovely head and correct eye colour. Good construction, correct coat and tail and covered the ground easily driving from well muscled quarters.
3. Potts’ Craignair Blue Suede. Active yellow bitch, well made all through. Feminine head with correct eye colour, good coat and tail and showed and moved happily.
4. Botha’s Ablesing Tanshes Memory. Compact well made yellow with a pretty feminine head. Good topline and tailset, double coat but a little open in texture. Moved well.
5. Van Rensburg’s Kirdneh Princess Askia of Marsabet. Substantial chocolate of reasonable construction but rather difficult to assess. Good head and eye colour, correct coat and tail.

Veteran Bitches.

1. Fourie’s Knibbelkouer Vrolike Madonna. Balanced yellow bitch, well made all through. Feminine head, good bone and neat feet. Correct coat, good topline and tail set and moved freely and true.
2. Potts’ Craignair Diamond Jubilee. Lovely type black in excellent coat. Feminine head with soft expression, good bone and neat feet. Just felt she was a little heavy on the day. Moved well.

Open Bitches.

1. Vieira’s Craignair of Vonniejo. Cracking black bitch of excellent overall construction and balance. Feminine head with correct eye colour and good length of muzzle. She had a good double coat of the correct texture and correct tail well set on. Good depth of body balanced by length of leg. Movement was sound and true. I was delighted to award her the Bitch CC and Reserve Best in Show. Hope she makes up.
2. Farrell’s Valhallen Dawn Rising of Castleburgh. 2nd in SA Bred bitches.
3. Howard’s Tapeatom Going For Gold. Pretty yellow bitch of smaller stamp. However, she presented a balanced picture and was of correct construction. Pretty feminine head with correct eye colour, good double coat and showed and moved well.
4. van Vuuren’s Adamasdor Emma Divine. Balanced black of good construction. Lovely head and expression as had all from this kennel. Correct coat and tail. Movement OK.
5. Louw’s Sonlo Madam Milou. Well constructed yellow with feminine head, good coat and tail and moved and showed happily.

Champion Bitches.

1. Holman’s Ch Charway Ballymae of Trevena NHR (Imp UK). Balanced bitch with good angulation fore and aft. Pretty head with correct eye colour. Excellent coat and tail and moved and showed well.
2. van Vuuren’s Ch Adamasdor Hannah. Neat yellow bitch of good overall construction. Feminine head with correct eye colour, good bone, neat feet, short coupled, correct double coat, moved soundly.
3. Bales’ Ch Lekkerwijn Maltabella. Chocolate bitch of good construction, but a little heavy for me on the day. Feminine head, eye colour OK, moved easily round the ring.
